The game of twenty-one or Blackjack consists of a dealer dealing cards and players trying to get as close to 21 as possible without going over (bust). If the dealer goes bust that means everyone wins. This game is the most popular casino game in the world because of its simple nature. Each card has a different number value associated with it, the numbers denote the value of the card while a face card (Jack, Queen, King) are valued at 10. If an ace is played it can denote either an 11 or a 1. This all depends on the player. One way of guessing the sequence of cards is known as card counting. Card counting is a strategy used to determine player’s probability of getting a high or low card. The idea behind this is a high proportion of high to low cards is good for the player and low to high cards are great for the dealer. Knowing this, a player can determine how much to bet from the initial deal and possibly know what the dealer holds. Many casinos do not particularly like this practice and if caught you are usually thrown out with possible banning. Throughout the years many people tried cheating the casinos but a lot of them were easy to notice but now there are getting more advanced.
Earlier this year, a suspicious mobile application was noticed at an Indian casino in Northern California. This just appeared like any normal application but upon further inspection it was a card counter. Most dealers thought this was just another iPhone application until they saw what was happening and noticed the card counting. This news spread to Las Vegas and the card counting application is now banned in many Las Vegas hotels and casinos. While card counting is not illegal it can get you banned in many casinos.
